Deadline for 1st round: Oct. 31st, 2011.
The Faraday Institute, St Edmund's College, Cambridge is currently advertising a new Grants Programme, the Uses and Abuses of Biology.
The aim of the funding programme is to investigate contemporary non-scientific uses and abuses of biological thought in the social sciences, philosophy, politics and theology. Projects should address the ways in which biological ideas, either deliberately or indirectly, shape perceptions, policies, strategies, theories or presuppositions in these various domains. A list of exemplar research topics is provided on the Sample Projects page; these projects are still open to investigation but are by no means the only topics of interest. Topics excluded from the the Programme include: bioethics, history (unless with strong contemporary relevance and application), ethical issues in the application of science, questions of sexual identity and policy, and race.
The Programme is interdisciplinary in scope and multidisciplinary collaborations are encouraged where feasible. For example, the Programme may provide an opportunity for a researcher in the biological sciences to recruit a postdoc from another discipline, or vice versa.
The programme is an world-wide and large-scale one, and they're trying to reach as wide a global audience as possible.
