Interested in the History of Print Culture
The next annual, international conference of the Society for the
History of Authorship, Reading, and Publishing (SHARP) will be held in
Washington DC, on 14-17 July 2011, with the theme "The Book in Art
and Science." SHARP conferences alternate between North American and
European venues and have met in Canada on three occasions in
Vancouver, Halifax, and Toronto. The 2011 conference will be co-hosted
by the Smithsonian Institution, the Library of Congress, and the
National Library of Medicine.
Historians of science and technology are particularly invited to
submit proposals. Dr. Jonathan Topham, Senior Lecturer in the History
of Science, and Director of the Centre for the History and Philosophy
of Science, Leeds University, UK will open the conference with a
keynote address. Dr. Topham is a noted scholar of nineteenth-century
scientific communication. The call for papers closes on 30 November
