Society for the History of Authorship, Reading, and Publishing (SHARP) conference, deadline: 30 November 2010

An Opportunity for Historians of Science & Technology

       Interested in the History of Print Culture

 

The next annual, international conference of the Society for the  

History of Authorship, Reading, and Publishing (SHARP) will be held in

  Washington DC, on 14-17 July 2011, with the theme "The Book in Art 

and  Science." SHARP conferences alternate between North American and  

European venues and have met in Canada on three occasions in  

Vancouver, Halifax, and Toronto. The 2011 conference will be co-hosted 

  by the Smithsonian Institution, the Library of Congress, and the  

National Library of Medicine.

 

Historians of science and technology are particularly invited to  

submit proposals. Dr. Jonathan Topham, Senior Lecturer in the History  

of Science, and Director of the Centre for the History and Philosophy  

of Science, Leeds University, UK will open the conference with a  

keynote address. Dr. Topham is a noted scholar of nineteenth-century  

scientific communication. The call for papers closes on 30 November
