Shauna Devine is an historian of Civil War and American medicine. She received her Ph.D in history from Western University, and has won awards for her work on Civil War medicine including the H.N. Segall Award and the E.M. Wightman Thesis Award.  She is currently a research fellow at the Schulich School of Medicine, and an assistant professor in the Department of History at Western University, where she teaches courses in both medical and Civil War history. Shauna Devine has published a number of short articles on Civil War medicine, and most recently she released her first book entitled, Learning from the Wounded: The Civil War and the Rise of American Medical Science (University of North Carolina Press, 2014), which examines the development of scientific medicine during the American Civil War, and the impact of the War's events on American medicine. She is currently working on a second book length project, which investigates the history of science, medicine, and medical education during the Civil War and reconstruction in
