In Praise of Navel Gazing, Or an Argument for or against Bioethics Studies

As the discipline of bioethics enters its intellectual adolescence, it has begun to reflect upon its identity. In this presentation I will explore the various forms of self-reflection that have occurred - historical, ethnographic, philosophical - and will argue for the importance of a fourth type of self-reflection, one that emphasizes the rhetoric of bioethics.
